BSD manuals, including kernel configuration, are available (PostScript
only; sorry folks) by anonymous FTP from:

	gatekeeper.dec.com:/.0/bsd-manuals

I have found the following particularly useful, although heavily
tied to the VAX way of doing things:

	ps1.06.sysman.ps.Z
	smm.01.setup.vax.ps.Z
	smm.02.config.ps.Z
	smm.07.sendmailop.ps.Z
	smm.15.net.ps.Z
	smm.16.sendmail.ps.Z

I suggest "smm.02.config.ps.Z" to start with.
