Subject: Printing problems...any raw device?

After upgrading from 2.0R to 2.1R, i've discovered a few problems with
printing certain files... specifically, escp/2 files (or indeed any epson
graphics files) as produced by ghostscript.

Under the Coherent operating system, the solution was to dump the file to
the raw printer device as the standard device would not play nicely with
certain ascii codes...

Can anyone give me an idea of a similar solution for FreeBSD 2.1R? The
steps I am currently trying (and failing with) are these:

ghostscript -sDEVICE=escp2 -sOutputFile=foo manual-tr.ps
cat foo >/dev/lpt0

this is not working... I also tried adding the suggested postscript
filter to lpr, and while the filter works, it still fails to print
properly.

Both of the above result in gargbage and a lot of lost printer paper as I
have to run the printer in polled mode, and have yet to find a way to
stop the printing once it's started...

Thanks in advance for any help...

Christine
