The following works on FreeBSD 2.0R and FreeBSD2.1R.

	ifconfig ep0 inet 194.163.120.xyz alias     
	route add 194.163.120.xyz localhost

The route add is necessary so you can ping yourself.
I have over 20 aliases on one machine without any problems.
