I want to use this to back up : my Linux and FreeBSD systems across the LAN. Mounting the other systems : through NFS would seem to cause problems with the uid/gid's when doing a tar : (is this right?) : Is there some kind of client I can run on the other machines so they : can back up onto the HP machine? why not run dump, pump the dump output through gzip and place the file that gzip creates on the Hp box via NFS. Then just back up one big dump.gz file. i.e. dump -0uf | gzip > /mnt/backup where /mnt/backup is a directory or the backup device on the HP via NFS Ben. ____ Ben Samman..............................................samman@cs.yale.edu "If what Proust says is true, that happiness is the absence of fever, then I will never know happiness.
