This is because you don't have a default route on your box. You need to
add one either by hand or have ppp do it for you. Look at the man page
and the examples for entries about default routes.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Your machine doesn't know that it should send *all* of it's packets via the PPP
connection.
