I did backups to an HP machine for almost a year including also backing up my DOS partitions. You really should use NFS. To do this, you need to synchronize the HP-UX and Linux and FreeBSD /etc/passwd files so that all users have the same UIDs on the different machines. Then just mount them up and use fbackup as normal. Remember to use the "Cross NFS mount" option to fbackup. It worked fine, but I ended up moving the tape drive to a Linux machine and have been very happy with it there.
