I am trying to install FreeBSD 2.1 from a Walnut Creek CDrom that I purchased.

I am getting the following error during the FileSystem building/filling portion of the install:

        Write failure on transfer!

                        (wrote -1 of 10240 bytes)

This happens when it is trying to add bin to the / directory 100% of the time.

It happens from time to time on other portions of the install, but not regularly. I have tried every possible combination.

I had considerable trouble getting the kernel to find my sony scsi Cdrom with an adaptec 1522 scsi card. 0x140, irq 12.

My harddrive is a quantum 810 gb and I am allocating the entire drive to freebsd.

It seems to me that the cdrom drivers are not stable, as the portions of the install have varying degrees of success.

Any Ideas?

TIA
