Date: 27 Feb 96 05:12:49 GMT Organization: University of California, Irvine Lines: 17 Message-ID: <dkleinh.825397969@isotope.ps.uci.edu> NNTP-Posting-Host: isotope.ps.uci.edu Summary: FreeBSD 2.1 ATAPI CDROM install doesn't recognize Toshiba XM-5302 Keywords: FreeBSD IDE CDROM Toshiba X-Newsreader: NN version 6.5.0 #6 (NOV) Hi, I just got the Walnut Creek FreeBSD 2.1 CD set and tried to install using the atapi boot. The CDROM drive is not found and I would like to know if anyone has had success with my brand: Toshiba XM-5302B - the drive is on the secondary controller and jumpered as master. I changed the jumper setting to slave and this did not work, either. Linux needs the drive to be jumpered master. There are a couple of jumpers on the drive and so perhaps there is something else one can change ? With the nice situation in computers these days, you never get any documentation or manuals anymore, so I have no idea what the second jumper is for. anyway, if anyone has had success with the Toshiba CD drive, I would appreciate knowing what your settings are. Thanks, Dirk dkleinh@isotope.ps.uci.edu
