Summary: How difficult technical, legal and otherwise?

Hi all,

I've got a microcom modem that optionally uses the parallel port instead
of the serial port for very high throughput of compressable data
( up to 300 KB/s they claim ) on a 28.8 link.

I would guess that a driver for this isn't available as yet.

So my question is: how difficult would it be to write one?

What are the issues involved here, technical, legal and otherwise?

Cheers,
