Most likely a division by : zero. I encountered the same problems with 2.1 and an ESDI drive which was low level formatted using a aternative track for bad sectors. Reformatting without alternative track solved my problem. Strangly enough I had been using the drive with FreeBSD 2.0 without any problems.
