A friend of mine has done the same thing, and as wierd as it might sound, it does work and from what I have seen, it is fast. I personally would have never thought of connecting the CDROM to the primary HD controller, but hey if it works, I don't care :). BTW it only works for IDE CDROMS. If you have the funky Sony I/F and/or some other non IDE cable device, your out of luck. Enjoy! : > : > Even though there is no stated IDE support, you have managed to get your IDE : > CD-ROM to WORK ???Yes, it works. On the install cd-rom it does state that a alpha version of : the code for ide cd-rom is available. I tried to install FreeBSD with the : hardware as shipped by Gateway, but the CD-ROM drive was not found. Then I : tried to install from a DOS partition but got some write errors(wierd), I also : tried a network installed but could not connect to ftp.freebsd.org(I guess it : was too busy). Finally, decided to get dirty and take the covers off and move : the drives around. And then Whammo. Everything started working just great. :-).
