While I've been able to understand most of the arguments from a theoretical level, I really don't know that much about how filesystems work(Theory or practice). I've looked at the online documents Terry Lambert mentioned earlier (thanks!) and they were pretty helpful, but I'm in search of something a bit more general. I guess I'm interested in pointers (URLs, ISBNs, or bibliographic data) to material on how filesystems are generally implemented and how they should work. Is there some canonical first reference on the subject? Also, pointers to information on journalling and/or logging filesystems and other nifty filesystem research would be appreciated. Email or followup, though followups are preferred; I only read comp.os.linux.development.system, so don't trim that group from the followups please. Thanks for your time, Sumner Hayes sumner+@cmu.edu
