Actually, you could just havbe replaced /dev/tty00 with /dev/com1 in the
Xconfig file.

The options for Xconfig are documented in the X386 man page.

The most recent copy is in /pub/386BSD/ports-0.1/XFree86.  The version number
on the archive files is now 1.1.
