: Get SCSI. Even get an ol' Archive Viper 150 or something like this.
: It'll make you much more happy.

That's very true. I've got such a lovely tape-drive and we are very happy.
You might not know this, but having a good relationship with your
tape-drive is very important. After all, if you aren't kind enough
to your backup-devices they might get angry with you and do nasty things.

So I moisten Vipe's head with some alcohol now and then and say nice things
about how really great and cool his big tapes are, then everything is fine.
When I hear Vipe's soft purring noises which always remind me of Boeings
taking off, I know the world is full of nice and friendly tapedrives.

But now I got this FreeBSD-thing running and there's one bad thing. Every
morning at boot-time I hear some strange unhappy sounds from my tape-drive
and when I look at the screen, I know why. FreeBSD is being unfriendly
to Vipe. It says:

   `` Sequential-Access st0: Archive Viper 150 is a known rogue ''

That really doesn't sound right! Makes Vipe feel like ``O, o, I'm known
to cause trouble.'' Vipe's getting uncertain from messages like those.
So, I did some full backups using compression and verified them. There
wasn't even a single bit-error which gave us both some confidence.
But, after having showed FreeBSD how reliable Vipe really is, FreeBSD
still says 'Rogue, known rogue' and it makes me really sad. It seems
like FreeBSD just doesn't know how to handle tape drives. It's a shame.
