FreeBSD 2.1 (already in a store near you) has "Alpha-Quality" support for
IDE CD-ROMs.  You will need to boot with the ATAPI boot image to have
that support present.

Be warned - currently the driver appears to like some ATAPI CD-ROM drives
and hates others.
