According to the Norton 6.0 Sysinfo program, my IDE drive on my 386 clone reads 900K/second. That is without any software caching, and with a $15 IDE card. My Sparc 1+ reads about 2.5MB/second from a Maxtor SCSI drive (SCSI-2). I can't believe you're only getting 50K/second from a PC. Even if you meant 500K/second, something isn't right (either the 386BSD driver or your hardware). --- Bill Dorsey (dorsey@lila.com)
