When they try to dump a filesystem to tape, the system sometimes crashes and reboots. The crash is ugly enough that it doesn't leave any core file to do a useful autopsy. This only happens during dumps to tape. If they don't access the tape, the machine runs flawlessly. The system: Micronics P100 mboard 48mb RAM 256k cache 3Com 3C509 ethernet card Buslogic 946C Seagate 4gig Barracuda internal (terminated) Conner 4gig 7200rpm drive external (not terminated) Conner 4-8gig DAT drive external (terminated) <-- last device 3ft cable to 1st external device 2ft cable to daisy-chain external drive/tape I have bought the heaviest duty cables (DEC) and used a quality active terminator. I've also fsck'ed all partitions and made sure that disconnect is enabled for the tape drive. I am stumped. Any ideas? Help! :-) Regards, Chris -- Christopher Mauritz | For info on internet access: ritz@mordor.com | finger/mail info@ritz.mordor.com OR Mordor International | http://www.mordor.com/ 201/212/718 internet access | Modem: (201)433-7343,(212)843-3451
