Message-ID: <DoAGy2.30J@alisa.org> Date: Fri, 15 Mar 1996 03:13:14 GMT Lines: 28 I've got FreeBSD 2.1 up and running and was wondering how to make an emergency boot floppy? I guess my real question is, how do I recover from backups if the root filesystem or kernel becomes hosed up? I got to thinking about this when I re-built the kernel to add more ppp (tun) devices and realized that I haven't a clue on how to recover this puppy if my new kernel is no good. Fortunately, it booted up just fine! I've looked through the FreeBSD Handbook but, couldn't find anything on this subject. I'm used to working with SunOS on Sparc machines and using the following procedure: 1) boot from cdrom 2) make a new filesystem on root partition. 2) restore root filesytem from tape. 3) make a boot block from the cdrom. How would I do this specifically on a FreeBSD system? many thanks -- John J. Rushford Westminster, Colorado___/\_/\_ wjjr@alisa.org (alisa.org is powered by FreeBSD)
