(help needed) Date: 20 Mar 1996 13:15:01 -0600 Organization: Lightning Systems Lines: 32 Distribution: world Message-ID: <4iplfl$h6g@carroll1.cc.edu> NNTP-Posting-Host: Carroll1 Hi, I've been given a research project that I need help on. I've got a remote Web Server running under FreeBSD v2.1 on a Pentium 166 with a PCI SCSI Controller, 4 gig SCSI drive, a PCI 10baseT Ethernet card and a keyboard. (no monitor) I need an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) for the system that can tell the operating system to shut down when the batteries are low during a power outage. I contacted APC (www.apcc.com), but they are not familiar with BSD, so couldn't help me out. Anyone else out there do this already? (i.e, get a UPS to talk to a BSD system) I've been recommended a APC Back UPS 450 which has a 9-pin interface on it to allow such communication, but don't know what kind of other hardware and software I'm going to need. Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Please respond to the e-mail address listed below since my newsfeed is very unreliable. (it just came back online after several days without service).
