The fix was a combination of a couple things. I stuck on a copy of Mode 32 (which I shouldn't have to, it wasn't designed for a IIci. I figure maybe the original kernel was compiled on a machine running Mode 32 and that's what's screwing it up) Also, I alocated much less RAM to the display under the monitors control pannel(i.e. 2-bit color). So, if anyone else is having trouble, you might want to give that a whack. I do get a "vm fault" every once in a while, which crashes the system, but oh well. I have had a little trouble getting apache to compile, so if anyone can give me some pointers I'd appreciate it. thanks again On Tue, 19 Mar 1996, Christopher R.
