OK.
I got WfW to see Samba. The trick, apparently, was to run nmbd daemon
after starting smbd. This provides nameserver support for clients. Now
I have no problem attaching. For some reason Win95 has no need for nmbd
to run.
My admin says the Novell NetBIOS emulation is not loading.
