Date: Thu, 14 Mar 96 16:15:29 -500 Organization: Earlham Computing Services Lines: 38 Message-ID: <4ia29c$a27@mips.infocom.com> NNTP-Posting-Host: yin.earlham.edu Hi, I'm trying to set up pppd (yes, not the user one) to accept ppp connection from outside. I'm still not used to handle UNIX in admin level, and I haven't managed myself being successful to make it work. I have three questions. 1) I have added the line to /etc/sysconfig as ifconfig_ppp0="inet xxx.xxx.xxx.200 xxx.xxx.xxx.201 netmask 255.255.255.0" as well as the 'network_interfaces' variable. I want *.200 to work as the ip# on the freebsd box side, but I'm not sure if it's correct. Is it correct? 2) I have copied the script files from the handbook on www.freebsd.org, but the modem connection isn't happy. Whenever I say set line /dev/ttyd1 in kermit it sits there forever. I tried /dev/cuaa1 then it worked, but is /dev/cuaa1 the device file I'm supposed to use? 3) kermit is happy with /dev/cuaa1 but it seems pppd isn't happy with that device file. As I try to connect to the box via the modem, the modems establish the physical connection but no more than that. I'm wondering if I have to do something more than what's written in the handbook @ www.freebsd.org. What am I doing wrong? I'd appreciate it if the suggestions would be sent to my account, rather than posted to the newsgroup since I don't want to bother other people going through such newbie questions. Thank you in advance.
