The system contains an Adaptec : EISA 1742 SCSI controller. The kernel compile time decreases from 860 : sec to 480 sec (user cpu time) although the board does not support WB L1 : cache! And the system is rock stable. These upgrade was the only : possibility not to throw away the Adaptec and my #9GXE64 S3 video card : (170000 xstones, 1152x900, 80 Hz, 8 bit). : : I can recommend this CPU without any restrictions. According to the data on AMD's own web site, a 486/120 is roughly the same speed (they are about the same price too). Has anyone done side by side speed comparisons on FreeBSD? Heh, I also have a sacred #9 GXE 64 Pro VLB board that I hesitate to get rid of. I wonder if AMD will just pick one of these critters to manufacture instead of marketing two separate products in the same perfomance arena?
