We used to do this sort of thing on the ncsu.test newsgroup.

We had alot of fun, and created a bit of college culture on our own.
Then somebody wrote a program to post zephyr instance message to
the group. This pissed off somebody in our Computing Center, and
the group was killed.

Then we took over ncsu.soc, which was mistakenly created when the
newsserver was upgraded from a DECstation 5000/25 to an Alpha
machine. (We had a newsgroup called ncsu.soc.india, and ncsu.soc
was also created by mistake).

We also found out more useful things to know about CC people, 
but that's another story.
