I've been having a number of problems with SCSI bus hangs when accessing
certain files (100% repeatable) on a Plextor 4Plex CDROM drive hung off
an Adaptec 1542CF.

My configuration is as follows:

PID 109 failure

This continues until the system most of my processes are killed, due to a
swapfile (one swap file on each of three disks) on the SCSI hard disk being
inaccessable.

I've managed to solve the problem by setting a jumper on the CDROM drive
to disable the 4 spin feature, essentially forcing into single spin mode.
When I used to use Linux I had no problems accessing the CDROM drive in
quad spin mode -- probably ruling out any real hardware problems.

My question is has anyone else encoutered SCSI bus hangs with quad spin
CDROM drives or with Plextor devices?

Please respond to cschuber@uumail.gov.bc.ca as my desktop system will not
accept SMTP connections.
