In fact both Bern and Berne are correct since as you pointed out, the spelling depends on the language and both German and French are two of the four official Swiss languages. PS Sorry for wasting bandwith, but I thought this cultural intrusion would amuse some of the readers who might think that this thread starts to hog the whole newsgroup.
