I remember back when the Diamond Stealth 64 hit the market and every one was looking for an X server on linux with support for this card. They didn't want to give up the specs for the card for much the same reasons. IMHO this is bad buisness practice. Here is a company which makes a peice of hardware and they put keeping the specs a secret over having the card supported on another platform therby cutting a percentage of customers away from their profits. If you want my oppinion it's not worth the trouble. Find another card which will do the same thing. Essentially what they are saying is that they don't want you as a customer. When I have to go looking for a piece of harware the number 1 thing I look for is compatibility with Linux. That is why I go with companies like adaptec and 3Com. It's not worth the hassle.
