Isn't there a way to do this the way the installation boot
disk does it?  That method seems pretty intuitive.

Thanks, I needed this - perhaps this installation should make
its way into the FAQ or the Handbook.  There's nothing about
filesystems or swap spaces in there.

newfs would also need more explanation - it seems intimidating,
as compared to, say, Linux, where mke2fs [partition-name]
can do it easily.
