The Sun User Group is pleased to announce its first East Coast
Technical conference in three years. This conference addresses the
important issues and difficulties of developing, managing, and
maintaining a mixed-architecture environment. With the introduction
of Sun's new Java programming environment, it is more important than
ever that developers, system administrators, and users be aware of the
differences and similarities between the various computer
architectures.

Technical papers and presentations concerning this topical issue, as
well as other topics of interest to the Sun/SPARC community, are
invited. Manufacturers of computer equipment and software based on
SPARC/Solaris technology are encouraged to participate in this
conference with presentations, talks, and seminars.

SUG conferences are attended by professionals from all over the world.
This symposium and tradeshow will draw speakers and attendees from not
only the Sun environment but from many other computer environments as
well.

Submission Guidelines:

Submissions should be in the form of extended abstracts (750 to 1000
words) and be sufficiently complete to allow the committee to

System Administration

Talks in this area should address the interests of those who
have been SunOS users for a year or more. Some of the more
in-depth topics: backups, migration to Solaris, perl, tools
for problem troubleshooting, and remote off-site
	administration.

Java
There are many topic areas surrounding the Java language,
including security, tools, code design, application writing
	experience, and performance.

Security
The popularity of the Internet has caused security to become
even more important. Topics in this area including securing
machines, implementing firewalls, security policy, secure
transactions, conducting business over the Internet, and the
new encryption standards such as SSL and SET.

The Internet
Internet-related topics of interest to Sun managers, users,
and administrators include getting connected, web server
	installation, configuration, and management, Intranet
facilities, web server content and development, and useful
	tools.

PRODUCT AND SALES INFORMATION

Vendors interested in ways to gain extra exposure for their products
at SUG East should consider a display at the SUG East Product Demo
Showcase. The Product Demo Showcase is a special theater-style room
set up just off the main entrance to the show floor. SUG East
exhibitors may rent the Product Demo Showcase to hold special in-depth
introductions to their products and receive extra publicity in the SUG
East Show Guide, pre-show materials, and with show floor signage.

Special events will be held at the Showcase throughout both days to
draw attendee interest. Exhibitors may rent this space for their
product demos for $500 per one hour block. For more information about
the Product Demo Showcase or other ways to gain exposure at SUG East,
contact Charles Sumner at (617) 232-0514 or at sales@sug.org. For
information about exhibiting at SUG East contact Paul Moschella at
(617) 769-8950.
