This will not be a boot drive, the system is already running on a Seagate 31230N (1.05GB Hawk). I would like to know what values I should use in the disklabel. I have the spec sheet with the raw geometry on it: Cylinders: 3,510 Heads: 11 Tracks: 38,610 Sec/Track (avg): 125 (calculated) When I installed the system disk, I couldn't enter the actual geometry, I ended up using a translated (BIOS compatible) one. I would like to know: 1. Is it possible/desirable to use the raw geometry? 2. What would the translated (BIOS compatible) geometry be? 3. Do *you* have a working disklable on an st32550n? (and can I get a copy?) I can (and may be forced to) stick the drive in the box and start a FreeBSD install on it to find out the BIOS geometry, but I thought I would ask the users on this list first since this is a common, popular drive. | John Lucas jlucas@uvi.edu | | Academic Computing NIC Handle: JL423 | | University of the Virgin Islands (809) 693-1216 | | St. Thomas, VI 00802 http://www.uvi.edu/jlucas.html |
