The symptoms are as follows: We have a dial-back mechanism (my govt department acts as a service provider), and I am able to call out successfully, receive the callback a few minutes later, start PPP, and apparently get to the point where I am ready to go. I get the message " Entering packet mode". At this point, I attempt to telnet to the numeric address of the service-providing machine, but get the message "No route to host". Below is copy of ppp.log; I attempted to telnet in just after 22:18:25, and then again a minute or so later. 04-02 22:17:35 [191] Using interface: tun0 04-02 22:17:35 [191] PPP Started. 04-02 22:18:25 [191] *Connected! 04-02 22:18:52 [191] Disconnected! 04-02 22:18:52 [191] Connect time: 27 secs 04-02 22:18:52 [191] Phase: Dead 04-02 22:21:06 [191] LCP: state change Initial --> Closed 04-02 22:21:06 [191] LCP: state change Closed --> Stopped 04-02 22:23:44 [191] PPP Terminated. A second problem is that PPP seems to behave erratically when I enter 'TERM' mode. Sometimes it echoes each character as I type it, but does nothing; other times it transmits and receives characters, but the echo to the screen is one character delayed, making it hard to use. To add to the annoyance, I have no trouble making a connection with Windows 95! I am using FreeBSD Release 2.1.0
