Assuming that you're using the installed C compiler, 
which is the GNU C compiler, you can find out more
than you'll want to read about it.  Use the 'info'
command and use cntl-N to step down to the menu entry
for GCC.  Then press m and you're off...

Alternatively, if you're familiar with emacs, use the
meta-x command to run 'info' inside emacs.
