No matter >what the hardware cost XFree86 adds no software cost. This is wrong, and I see why Thomas is frustrated. When someone asks me to consult for them, I charge them lots of money per hour for my time. One hour's worth of my time is worth more than the entire cost of the AcceleratedX server. How long does it take you to set up XFree86 for a new monitor/card combination that isn't documented in the db file? I can tell you that doing this for AcceleratedX takes a total of 1 minute. So, to the extent that I have to spend non-trivial time setting it up, XFree86 has a very real software cost. -- Pete Berger Coordinator, Regional Information Infrastructure Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center
