I'm not surprised. > Actually, MANY things have greatly improved in even the last few days! Some benchmarks have gone up over 15%! BTW UDP? Do you mean User Datagram Protocol, by any chance? 8-) I REALLY doubt it is only 14%. Personally, I don't consider slow routines a FLAW, but rather something that needs improvement. I have been getting fine performance, and could probably make things better if I wished. Besides, linux has a lot more flexibility than any system I have seen. Heck, I am anxious to try out Wine! Dosemu, ibcs2, and similar products have worked GREAT, and put SCO to SHAME! ALSO, the general performance on my 386/40 put SCO on an EISA 486DX/50 to shame! SO, I can't complain. Steve OH YEAH, I have used the latest patches for a LONG time! 1 caused the system not to boot. 3-4 needed minor patches. 2-3 caused MINOR disk corruption that was backed out quickly with fsck. The OTHERS(literally over a hundred) were generally stable in my case! I started with .99pl14, and am now up to 1.3.82 OK, so sometimes I wait a few days! 8-) Heck, I just finished testing an app that was made to be run on an SCO system! I recompiled PART of it, linked it, tested it, and it ran GREAT! The timings, BTW were AMAZING! They were VERY close to native, and blew dos comparisons of the same app out of the water! They were almost twice as fast! I even got dosemu to work. It required the adition of ",NULL" to two routines(only three lines were changed). So I guess I shouldn't trust Linus if he has "GUARANTEED that the 1.3.x would not be stable"!
