FreeBSD is extremely sensitive to memory timing issues.  I was unable to get
to run reliably until I replaced some mixed 3-chip 9-chip simms with all
9-chip simms.  Runs like a champ now.  OS/2 exhibits similar behavior, as it 
also exercises things harder that DOS/Windows.  Good luck tracking it down.
