I forgot to mention that I am able to log into another system (SunOs or 
Linux) and then from there, telnet to the Freebsd machine.  So, 
pictorially, it looks like:

my Freebsd --> School SunOS --> destination Freebsd

that works fine.  But i can't go straight from my Freebsd to the 
destination Freebsd.
