Brian is of course correct.  The civil law phrase for the equivalent of
accepting partial liability for something has escaped me, and I picked that
as a poor substitute, although I still believe it to be a better wording
than "the equivalent of accepting partial liability for something".  At
least in isn't verbose, and it indicates an analogous condition.
