I've got a Compaq Prolinea MT4/66, but I have disabled IDE and I use
an Adaptec 1542C card.

It's the best machine I have had, and runs perfectly (no problems yet)
FreeBSD (2.0.5 and 2.1R) and Plan 9. I also tried Linux. (which also worked)
From the previous list, the only system I tried with IDE is Linux. (Slackware 2.2).
(A machine for a friend).

I installed the systems without worrying about the hardware and without
any problems.

Anyway, FreeBSD will work much better with a bus master SCSI
card.

	Borja.
