Most likely, you will want to create just a single partition in your
disklabel. Here's a disktab entry for it, as it can be found in
recent systems:

mta3230|mo230|IBM MTA-3230 230 Meg 3.5inch Magneto-Optical:\
	:ty=removeable:dt=SCSI:rm#3600:\
	:se#512:nt#64:ns#32:nc#216:sc#2048:su#444384:\
	:pa#444384:oa#0:ba#4096:fa#0:ta=4.2BSD:\
	:pc#444384:oc#0:

Install it with

	disklabel -Brw sd1 mta3230

Note that you are strongly advised to *disable* the format tweaking in
newfs:

	newfs -t 0 -u 0 [perhaps other options] /dev/rsd1a
	      ^^^^^^^^^

See the man page for the hairy details.

p.s.: You might also find Shunsuke Akiyama's ``od'' driver useful.
It's in the /xpriment section of FreeBSD 2.1R.
