Doug here, in Tokyo again, with another simple question: are COMPAQs ok
for FreeBSD?

Thanks to the many responses I received about whether I can use an
IDE-based machine, I have decided to stick with SCSI only, like my current
FreeBSD machine.

In Akihabara they are selling some inexpensive Compaq's, all SCSI (smart
SCSI-II), with a DX4 cup, 16MB of RAM, 2GB of HD and built-in ether card
for a little over $1000. It seems like a great deal for my purpose.

But a friend was cautioning me that Compaq's use some proprietary,
incompatible bus hardware, and it may not support FreeBSD.

So, if anybody with Compaq experience can tell me whether there are
problems or not with Compaqs, I would greatly appreciate hearing!

Right now my DNS, SMTP, NNTP and RADIUS are all running on one machine. It
works just fine, but I am having nightmares about the hard disk crashing
and my entire system coming to a standstill! <grin>

Thanks!
