I heard that FreeBSD will not run on Compaq computers because they use
some incompatibile, proprietary bus technology. Does anybody have
experience with FreeBSD and Compaq?

I was thinking of getting a SCSI-based Compaq system for a second FreeBSD
machine.

Thanks,
