Oh, it does, it just only does so for full-duplex sound *cards*! :-)

The GUS and PAS cards work full-duplex, Sound Blaster cards like yours
are incapable of full-duplex operation so you can only use them in one
direction at a time.  For the MBONE folks, there's a version of vat
called vat-and-a-half which is available (from, I think,
rah.stargate.com) to deal with this.  Other packages, like Speak Freely,
have a HALF_DUPLEX compile-time option.
