No, I have the same drive (Seagate Elite 9GB) attachted to a Solbourne running SunOS 4.1.1 and it works fine. But the size of a partition is limited to 2 GB so you have to create at least 5 partitions to use the full drive. Before you can create the filesystems (newfs) you have to create partition, using the "partition"-tool. Did you do that ? I hope this helps ..
