Emacs is fixable because the source is available (assuming the API for accessing the attributes is supported by a compiler that can compile emacs, which wasnt the case or DOS/Netware as far as I could see). How about (say) Word, or Excel..., they probably run on OS/2 but are they native (must admit I don't know - I do know that not all windoze programs have OS/2 versions), can they read/understand EAs ? If they can't then they need to be fixed since OS/2 isnt going to change... why do I feel there might be a problem here... On the other hand, if the attributes were available in the form of a file in some form of compatibility mode/view/whatever, well Word can read files, has macro language... and it starts to become fixable. I know it's ugly, wont work fully, is not the right fix, but if it works enough to get Word users using your FS then you have a lot more chance of getting Word fixed properly. Well, IMHO anyway. ray -- Ray Auchterlounie Research Student (still) at: <rda@kythera.demon.co.uk> Signal Processing Group <rda@eng.cam.ac.uk> Cambridge University Engineering Dept.
