The controller is an NCR 810, and there is also a Conner tape drive on the same bus. The machine is running 2.2-960323-SNAP. The SCSI devices are detected as follows: ncr0 <ncr 53c810 scsi> rev 1 int a irq 11 on pci0:12 ncr0 waiting for scsi devices to settle (ncr0:0:0): "CONNER CTMS 3200 7.08" type 1 removable SCSI 2 st0(ncr0:0:0): Sequential-Access st0(ncr0:0:0): 200ns (5 Mb/sec) offset 8. density code 0x0, drive empty (ncr0:6:0): "CONNER CFP1080S 4443" type 0 fixed SCSI 2 sd0(ncr0:6:0): Direct-Access sd0(ncr0:6:0): FAST SCSI-2 100ns (10 Mb/sec) offset 8. 1030MB (2110812 512 byte sectors) I can partition and make file systems on the SCSI disk without any problem, but as soon as I start for instance a dump/restore from my IDE disk to the SCSI disk, I get lots of ncr0: SCSI phase error fixup: CCB already dequeued (0xf06a2c00) ncr0: restart (ncr dead ?). sd0(ncr0:6:0): UNIT ATTENTION asc:29,0 sd0(ncr0:6:0): Power on, reset, or bus device reset occurred , retries:3 sd0(ncr0:6:0): FAST SCSI-2 100ns (10 Mb/sec) offset 8. sd0(ncr0:6:0): internal error: cmd=00 != 80=(vdsp[0] >> 24) ncr0: restart (ncr dead ?). sd0(ncr0:6:0): UNIT ATTENTION asc:29,0 sd0(ncr0:6:0): Power on, reset, or bus device reset occurred , retries:3 sd0(ncr0:6:0): FAST SCSI-2 100ns (10 Mb/sec) offset 8. ncr0:6: ERROR (81:40) (8-28-0) (8/13) @ (dd0:00000000). script cmd = 18000000 reg: da 10 c0 13 47 08 06 1f 01 08 06 28 80 00 08 00. ncr0: restart (fatal error). sd0(ncr0:6:0): COMMAND FAILED (9 ff) @f06a2c00. ncr0: restart (ncr dead ?). sd0(ncr0:6:0): FAST SCSI-2 100ns (10 Mb/sec) offset 8. sd0(ncr0:6:0): UNIT ATTENTION asc:29,0 The kernel is compiled with the FAILSAFE option. I found I also needed to compile ncrcontrol with the FAILSAFE option, or it would stop with a complaint about ncrcontrol being incompatible with kernel. Any good ideas about how I can get further with this problem? Steinar Haug, Nethelp consulting, sthaug@nethelp.no
