It is not destroying any data, simply appending large numbers of nulls to the end of it, which is confusing Tin and other newsreaders. I have throttled the server, edited the nulls out of the active file, and resumed it. It seems to be a temporary solution as the problem will reappear in a few hours. I am running FreeBSD 2.2SNAP.
