[Q] Organization: The Draco Unix System, Winnipeg, Canada Message-ID: <1992Oct17.171244.3918@draco.bison.mb.ca> Keywords: getty 8 bits Date: Sat, 17 Oct 1992 17:12:44 GMT Lines: 32 Hello, I've seen countless requests about problems that people are having with getty etc...and I've had mine too, in fact I still do...Ok...here's where it sits with me. I couldn't get the getty that comes with 386bsd to work properly to save my life. BUT, once I installed the cgd.com patches and set it up so that I had bi-directional ports, 8096 worth of com-buffer, and set the TRIGGER value inside com.c to 4 instead of 14, I noticed that the damn thing actually worked...well almost. My ZyXEL 1496E works like a charm at 38400. My 2400 Smart One Hayes compatible, isn't fairing so well though. I have it set up with no echo, no response codes, track dtr and cd, and I'm using the 'A' line in the /etc/gettytabs file, the one that is supposed to autobaud. Well, when someone calls, the modem just spits garbage at them and then turfs them. Now what's funny is that if they call back like 2 times more, things are fine. I thought that it might be that the getty was picking up a high CD before there was actually one there, so I bumped up the S9 register to 20, but this still hasn't fixed it. My question is this. Has anyone got a solution for my above problem? I might also note that the 2400 line is 7 bits, but the ZyXEL seems to be fine at 8 bits. Both have similar gettytab lines. Also, has anyone successfully ported a "smart" getty for 386bsd? That they use and WORKS? And has anyone got a clue on this 8 bit port problem? Lots of questions here, but I sure hope one of the main GURUS could shed some light on the problem. Thanks in advance.
