The uk device is a catch-all for any unknown SCSI device.  You can't really
do anything with it (check the sources).

Check the manual that came with your drive.  One of the DIP switches on the
back control whether the drive reports itself as a MO or hard drive.  Flip
it to "hard drive", and BSD will find it as sd1.  Be warned; the switch may
not even work..  My Fujitsu 128m always reports as MO (type 7), no matter
what I set the switches at.

An alternative is to update to a newer version of BSD that recognizes
optical media.  I'm running the 960303-SNAP, and my drive comes up as od1
(optical drive).
