You gather entirely correctly on both counts.

Mostly due to time pressures only; I've been focusing my time more on
doing the 2.2 SNAPs and a lack of machine resources forces me to do
pretty much one branch at a time - I have only one build machine, and
transitioning it between -stable and -current is quite a chore.

That said, if 2.1.1 is looking like it's going to slip then I'll see
what I can do about laying my hands on a machine that can run -stable
long enough to snapshot it.  I've certainly no problem in theory with
doing SNAPs along both branches.
