Is this to be expected? : expected? Yes, sorta. :-( : msdosfs is known to be broken, in particular it's known to almost : always crash with a FAT file system that has been shrunk with FIPS. The msdos file system can be described as lethal to your data. I have now several times trashed my *UFS* partitions beyond repair by executing a find on my (read-only) msdos partition(s) (including that performed automagically in /etc/weekly - took me a while to work out why I always spent my weekends rebuilding my system :-< ). My msdos disk is large (2GB - 2*1GB partitions) but conventionally (i.e. fdisk) partitioned. Fortunately the purchase of this disk coincided with that of a DAT drive... (I can provide more data if anyone is working on fixing this problem). -- Thomas Sandford | t.d.g.sandford@prds-grn.demon.co.uk
