The msdos file system can be described as lethal to your data. I have
now several times trashed my *UFS* partitions beyond repair by executing
a find on my (read-only) msdos partition(s) (including that performed
automagically in /etc/weekly - took me a while to work out why I always
spent my weekends rebuilding my system :-< ).

My msdos disk is large (2GB - 2*1GB partitions) but conventionally (i.e.
fdisk) partitioned.

Fortunately the purchase of this disk coincided with that of a DAT drive...

(I can provide more data if anyone is working on fixing this problem).
